Pacquiao vs. Algieri

Manny Pacquiao beat Timothy Bradley on scorecards to win the WBO welterweight title in Las Vegas.

The 35 years old Pacquiao, who lost to American pugilist Tim Bradley in a controversial first meeting in 2012, was the winner on all three judges' scorecards.

"I proved tonight that my journey in boxing will continue," said Pacquiao, who has won 56 of his 63 fights.
Bradley, 30, said: "I was determined to knock him out. I got beaten here but the war is not over.

Manny Pacquiao has won world titles in eight weight divisions during an remarkable career that began in 1995, but Bradley questioned his hunger in the build-up to their rematch.

Pacquiao was asked how longer he'll continue, Pacquiao answered: "A couple more years."

"There's no problem for me. My job is to fight in the ring - any opponent."

Bradley, unbeaten in his 32 previous fights, received hate mail and death threats after claiming a disputed points win over Pacquiao in their first bout.

"I thought I had to do more [than the first fight]- that's why I was going for a knockout," Bradley said of his occasional ill-discipline at the MGM Grand on Saturday.

"I was trying to hit him with something over the top when he was throwing."

The first time that Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley stepped inside of the ring, it appeared clear that Pacquiao walked away from the bout victorious. However, the judges on hand decided to make a highly controversial decision and scored the bout in favor of Bradley.

Now, Pacquiao and Bradley will square off for a second time April 12 on pay-per view for the WBO welterweight title and the Nevada State Athletic Commission allowed the fighters to have a say on who will be judging the bout.

“What the commission did was give us a whole list of officials that were being considered — judges and referees — and then we circulated it to both camps and we said knock out anybody that you feel may not be suitable,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, via ESPN.com.

“Then we had a phone call with (commission chairman Francisco Aguilar and commissioner Bill Brady last week) and said, ‘Here are the officials that both sides have no objection to,’ and out of that they selected three judges and the referee.”

In their last fight, it was judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford who scored the bout in favor of Bradley, and neither of them will be involved in the decision this time around.

The three judges chosen for Pacquiao-Bradley II were Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada, Michael Pernick of Florida and John Keane from Great Britain. Neither fighter had any issues with the judges selected by the NSAC.

Neither camp can complain about the officials selected because these are judges approved by both camps and same with the referee,” Arum said. “I really commend the commission for taking the steps that they did and with all the transparency in this. It’s the fighters who are most affected by this decision and now neither fighter can say anything whatever happens.

Top Rank has finalized the HBO pay-per-view undercard for the April 12 rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, loaded with one of a hell stacked card: world-title fight, an interim world title fight, and a lightweight showdown between a pair of veterans with a habit of putting on good fights.

In the featured undercard bout, Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-0, 9 KO) will defend the WBA "regular" junior welterweight title against Jessie Vargas (23-0, 9 KO). Allakhverdiev, 31, won the then-vacant title against Joan Guzman in 2012, then signed with Top Rank and made one defense against Souleymane M'baye in Monaco. This will actually be Allakhverdiev's first fight on a Top Rank-promoted card as a Top Rank fighter.

Vargas, 24, is a former Mayweather Promotions prospect who jumped ship to Top Rank in 2012. His career has been steady at the same level since a 2011 win over Josesito Lopez. This will be his first shot at a world title -- whatever you think of the world title -- and he'll be looking to live up to some hype that has stagnated somewhat over the last year or so.

Former two-time super featherweight titlist Rocky Martinez (27-2-2, 16 KO) will move up to lightweight to face Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO) in the night's second PPV fight. Beltran, 32, hasn't fought since a highly controversial draw in the UK against lightweight titlist Ricky Burns last September, a fight most observers felt he'd obviously won. Martinez, 30, is coming off of a KO-8 loss to Mikey Garcia in November.

In the PPV opener, interim WBA super featherweight titleholder Bryan Vasquez (32-1, 17 KO) will face prospect Jose Felix Jr (26-0-1, 21 KO). The 21-year-old Felix has been impressive thus far as a pro, while Vasquez, 26, is probably best-known for a 2012 loss in Japan to Takashi Uchiyama.

This is a hell of action-packed night of thrilling explosives! Witness and experience the Pacquiao-Bradley 2 undercard LIVE televised on HBO pay-per-view on April 12. Enjoy.
